Application

The biggest draw of this product is the special dispenser. Most dry shampoos use aerosol cans, which are not environmentally friendly. Even those who don’t use aerosol are typically sold in spray bottles. While spraying is a great way to get the product onto your hair, in reality these spray bottles often end up clogged and don’t dispense the product very well. Blow dry shampoo has solved this problem by using a special “poof” dispenser. You just sort of poof it onto your hair. There is no waiting like with other products- poof it on and rub it through. The company says a brush is not necessary- you can use your fingers because it applies so lightly and evenly. I found this to be true and certainly a lot more convenient.

This is a sulfate-free dry shampoo that contains a pure protein blend. It is safe for color-treated hair and is keratin complaint as well, which means it is a very gentle option. Moreover, this product is not tested on animals.

Scent

Another good thing about Blow Faux dry shampoo is that it does not have any scent. There are some dry shampoos that smell fabulous but there are also some really offensive, cloying scents out there as well. Everybody has a different idea of what smells good, and even the nice smelling ones can clash with your perfume or lotion. It’s great that Blow decided to make this unscented dry shampoo because it means so many more people can use it, even the most sensitive of noses and yes, even men!

Price

One of the reasons it took me so long to try this is because of the price. It’s not that it’s terribly expensive compared to others, coming in at around the $20 mark, but the bottle just seems so small for the price. However, after using this for a while it became clear that this bottle was going to last so much longer than usual. If you’ve read my past reviews or have tried lots of dry shampoos, you have probably heard of at least one or two that seems to have less than five applications per bottle. Not Blow Faux. This one can last you several months of regular use simply because the application is so different.

• Look for sales. Although it doesn’t happen often, sometimes you can find dry shampoo on sale. If it’s a drugstore brand you’re after, you should check out the weekly fliers in your local newspaper. Sometimes you can find 2-for-1 or half off deals. Also look at Sally’s Beauty Supply circulars for deals on brands they carry such as Batiste. Ulta often does promotions of higher-end brands so check their fliers as well. A bit of research can really pay off when it comes to finding dry shampoo sales.

With that out of the way, let’s look at what makes Tigi Rockaholic Dry Shampoo a good product. First, it accomplishes its goal of absorbing grease on the head nicely. It doesn’t get sticky unless your hair is already super oily and even then you can still get another day or so out of your washing using a bit of Rockaholic.

It manages to do all of this without leaving your hair looking ashy as some other dry shampoos do. However, it does make your hair look slightly duller than usual but definitely not greasy. It has a bit of a strong scent at first, very similar to the tropical fragrance to other Tigi products, but the scent fades pretty quickly and settles into something quite subtle that someone would need to be close to your hair to even notice.

The best way to use Bed Head dry shampoo is to flip your head over and spray it toward the roots then flip your head back over and comb it through with your fingers. If you have bangs you might need to put a small amount in the bang area as well. One of the best things about Tigi Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo is that you don’t need to comb it through a million times to get rid of all the traces of powder.

Oily hair tends to be a bit limp, especially after not washing for a few days. Tigi dry shampoo combats that issue as well by giving hair a bit of texture and volume. This helps you eliminate the look of having your hair plastered to your head and in that respect it can even be used to correct overapplication of shine serums and other hair styling oils.

Tigi has already corrected the issue with the old bottles not dispensing all of the product mentioned in older Rockaholic dry shampoo reviews and the new Tigi rockaholic dirty secret dry shampoo bottles should not have this problem. Just in case you do buy it somewhere that is selling old stock, there are a few things you can do to get the rest of the powder out of the bottle. You can try holding it upside down and then spraying. You can also run the bottle under hot water for a minute and then shake it and this should get the powder inside moving around enough to dispense.

TIGI dry shampoo is made with the same care that goes into their other products. If you’re a fan of their Catwalk Shampoo and Conditioner line or products like Bedhead After Party, you will probably be pleased with Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo as well. I think there are probably better dry shampoos out there if you are only looking to solve one specific problem but this one manages to do a decent job at everything a dry shampoo should do while avoiding the pitfalls many others fall into.

This powder does a great job of giving hair a bit of lift without having to use the dreaded hairspray and backcomb technique. A small amount of this powder is all it takes to create some volume. You just rub it between your hands and then pat it into your hair toward the roots.

Because it is a mattifying powder, Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It can instantly make your hair look less greasy. When you don’t have time for washing, it’s a great quick fix that works well. When it’s your third or fourth day without washing your hair, this can combat both the greasiness and the limpness that are telltale signs of unwashed hair. While there are other dry shampoos on the market that work better at eliminating grease, this one is superior when it comes to battling the limpness and flatness that often come along with dirty hair. Some dry shampoos can make your hair a little bit too matte but Schwarzkopf got it right with this formula. It makes hair look matte but not powdery and it doesn’t show up on darker hair the way some other white powders can.

One word of advice: a little bit of Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder goes a very long way. Begin using the tiniest amount imaginable. You can always add more, but you probably won’t need to. It is very concentrated and you need even less than you think you do. The upside of this is that the bottle lasts a very long time. When you first see the bottle, you will be alarmed at its small size but in the end you will get plenty of use from it. You definitely don’t want to use too much or your hair will end up too stiff and feel a bit rough and even sticky to the touch.

If you need body, Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It is definitely the way to go. This powder can transform fine, limp hair pretty easily and make it look full of life. It’s just a matter of shaking a tiny amount on your hair and then poofing it up a bit with a comb or your fingers. It really doesn’t get any easier than that. Even better, you don’t need to use mousse or hair spray or any other products. If your hair does fall flat- for example, after wearing a hat- you only need to fluff it up with your fingers a bit and it will bounce right back to being full again. It’s hard to imagine how a bit of powder accomplishes all that, yet somehow it does.

The problem with many shampoos on the market is that they are too moisturizing. Indeed many people put their hair through the rigors of coloring and heat styling so there is a very large market for this. However, even “regular” shampoos seem to have a number of ingredients that can leave hair looking greasy. When shopping for shampoo for oily hair, take a look inside the bottle. Is the shampoo clear and thin or creamy and thick? The texture can be a pretty good indication as to how heavy the shampoo is.

One ingredient you might want to look out for is panthenol. Panthenol helps to give fine hair a boost of volume without weighing it down and contributing to the greasy look. Also look for words on the label such as “gentle” or “clarifying”. Clarifying shampoos remove buildup that accumulates in hair over time thanks to repeated use of hair spray, gel, and other styling products as well as conditioner. This buildup can weigh hair down and make it look even more greasy than it actually is. You don’t have to use a clarifying shampoo every day but it is often recommended that those with oily hair use a clarifier once per week to help get rid of everything that has accumulated over the week and start fresh.

Dry shampoo is perhaps the best shampoo for oily hair. This is a waterless shampoo so it helps cut down on time spent in the shower as well as drying and styling. Shake on a little bit of this powder and comb it through your hair and watch as it absorbs all the grease and makes your hair look dry and clean. Of course you’ll still need to wash your hair with traditional shampoo regularly but a few shakes of dry shampoo can be a quick fix when your hair looks embarrassingly dirty. It’s a lot easier to use a bit of powder shampoo on your way out the door than it is to wash and dry your hair all over again. Batiste Dry Shampoo is a budget-friendly yet very effective option that also gives your hair a boost of volume. Rene Furterer Dry Shampoo is perfect if you are looking for a green product. Like regular shampoos, there are plenty of formulations to meet every type of hair need but unlike regular shampoo, any type of waterless shampoo is perfectly suited for oily hair.

There are plenty of options when it comes to shampoo for oily hair. Now you know what to look for so read those labels carefully and you are sure to find something that does the job!

To use corn starch as dry shampoo for oily hair, first pour some into the palm of your hand. Start with a small amount because it’s easy to overdo it and if you don’t put enough initially, you can always add more later. Then rub your hands together and then pat them gently onto your scalp. You should not apply it anywhere near your ends- just at the roots where your hair is greasy. Don’t worry about how it looks when you first apply it. Just make sure you put it as close to the scalp as you can.

If you plan on doing this a lot, you may want to use a shaker bottle with holes at the top for this purpose so that you can easily pour out a small amount and avoid getting powder everywhere. If you use a shaker bottle, just shake a little bit directly onto your hair at the roots.

Next, brush or comb the powder through your hair. A fine-toothed comb is the best choice for even distribution, then follow up with your usual brush. This helps disperse the powder. If your hair still looks greasy, add more cornstarch. If your hair looks powdery, simply continue combing and brushing until the powder is no longer noticeable. If you think you applied way too much, you may need to rub the excess with a towel or your hand as well.

The main problem with using cornstarch as hair powder is that it can be obvious if you do it wrong. Apply too much and you will have visible white powder in your hair which may even be mistaken for dandruff. That is why it’s best to start with a little and then keep adding more until the greasiness is gone.

In a pinch, cornstarch as a homemade dry shampoo is great but if you think you’ll use it often, it is better to buy a dry shampoo that is specially formulated for hair as these tend to blend better and often contain ingredients that help make your hair healthy and smell great. If cornstarch appeals to you because it’s natural, you may want to consider a commercial product made with natural ingredients such as Naturia by Rene Furterer.

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo powder has a very fine texture so having a powdery look to your hair won’t be an issue, even if you are a brunette like me. As someone who doesn’t like to waste money, I try to go as long as possible between hair colorings and one way to preserve the color is to avoid excessive washing. On top of that, I don’t have much free time and I don’t like to spend what little time I do have blow drying my hair and then straightening it. This product solves both problems for me by enabling me to only wash and style my hair once every five days or so.

This product has a citrus scent which I find light and refreshing. The main ingredient is rice starch which is very natural. You only need to put a little bit at the roots and then brush it through, so one bottle could conceivably last a very long time. It doesn’t make your hair look dull or powdery and is pretty easy to blend as far as hair powder goes. It is also great for giving some volume to your hair. I’ve used it successfully for adding some lift when doing updos. It doesn’t provide as much volume as Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder but it definitely outperforms it in terms of grease-absorbing ability.

I will say that it’s not something you can use every day for a week because then it starts to build up and become more noticeable. I think even the laziest among us try not to go that long without washing our hair anyway.

One caveat: do not apply Oscar Blandi Pronto dry shampoo to wet hair or it will become clumpy. That is probably true for all dry shampoo but it’s something we discovered by accident.

If you want to buy Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo, you might want to start out with the travel size
because it’s a bit cheaper and that way you can see if it will work well for you before you commit to the full sized Pronto Dry Shampoo.

I have dark brown hair, so I decided to get both the brown and the black hair powder to see which one suited my hair better. Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo contains oat flour and corn starch and I always prefer natural ingredients whenever possible. You do have to be careful applying this due to the color… don’t put it on when you are wearing a white shirt! The black one in particular left colored powder everywhere. I recommend covering your shoulders and the floor with a dark towel before applying this product to avoid staining. I’d also be hesitant to wear a light colored shirt on the days that I use this.

Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo does not seem to leave as much of a clean appearance in my hair as other dry shampoos do, but this product is excellent at providing body to my hair. A few days after washing my hair, not only does it look greasy but it is also quite slick and flat against my head. What the Bumble and Bumble hair powder does is really help give some volume to my hair between washings and helps me create the illusion of more hair. It also helps blend away my roots as I tend to push the limit in terms of time elapsed between hair colorings.

The red Bumble and Bumble hair powder can also be used to give lighter hair colors a little bit of a red cast, which is a really neat way to change your color a bit without any long-term commitment. It also blends great for redheads. The Bumble & Bumble white hair powder is ideal for those with white or grey hair, an often neglected segment when it comes to dry shampoo.

The main drawback of this product is the price. At around $40, it isn’t cheap, although that is to be expected with a high end line like Bumble + Bumble. If you buy online, you can find smaller sizes that sell for less than half the price, however. For all of the reasons outlined in this review, I don’t think this product is suited to every day use as a dry shampoo, but it is certainly worth having in your hair arsenal for special occasions. Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo is perfect when you need to transform dirty hair into something special on short notice.
